how come these always seem to be a season off when compared to thetvdb.com?

according to wikipedia theres 7 seasons.

when it aired on american tv, they skipped a season - they aired one episode, then stopped.
they started up again with an "all new season" - which was the one they'd already aired one ep of,
and continued.
