ah, darkfang, i'm in the same boat. my elderly laptop just simply can't handle the big video files.
being but a poor student, i can't afford a more spry machine right now.

we must just remain calm and patient. surely our benefactors at eztv will ease our suffering in
time, although i dread the day when they finally decide that nobody needs a lower resolution.

looks like all of last nights uploads were 720p first. hopefully not going to be a trend as they
aren't very friendly to my computer either. i just went to mininova and downloaded from another
poster instead. suppose i will be doing that more frequently if the smaller versions come out later
here.

for me it's not a problem of handling one file, it's a problem of storing the 40+ shows i'm watching.
hard drives are cheap, but not that cheap 🙂

anyway thanks eztv ! i may be impatient but i still greatly appreciate all the work. and in the end,
better late than never !

your 40+ shows just may fit into 4-5 double layered dvd discs. wouldn't that be cheaper than storing
them on hds? just a thought.

4 or 5??
let's say a show is in regular def is 3.5gb/7gb a season depending on episode length (which is what
i usually have). if we take this episode of sanctuary, 720p is 3 times bigger. that's 10 to 20gb a
season.
multiply by 40 shows, this makes 400 to 800gb a year.
i guess it'll take more than a few dvd for that. 🙂
add a lot of old show/movies and stuff, it takes quite a lot of dvds !

and even in "low" def i'd rather keep it on hd. i trust them more (easier to backup too), and i
don't have to switch dvd to stream divx from my hd to my tv 🙂
