religion unlike ethnicity, gender or sexuality is something that you have the ability to choose.
nobody can force you to believe in any given faith, you can point a gun at me and tell me to believe
in something but, unless i see proof i still wont believe it even if i say something contrary.
certainly you can be conditioned to believe something, but you have the choice to reject anything
that's taught to you. therefore you can insult religion and not be a bigot. a true bigot insults
people because of things that are beyond their control. there is however a difference between
insulting the person and insulting the religion. i'll attack dogma to the day i die yet i have
friends in several different faiths.

as for christians being persecuted, i'll say no until somebody shows me where they're being
systematically locked up, executed or tortured.

i agree with whitephoenix, but i don't need proof that any higher power exists. i just need logical
explanation. you can pick any religion and you can find a lot of flaws in their scripture.
christianity for example has the bible, which tells us that the universe 6000 some odd year old. the
mere fact that we can see the stars at night disproves this, because the light from those stars
takes more than 6000 years just to reach us.

i'm glad that our 1st world nations are trying to weed out religion from our lives. it lays a
foundation for future people to be more intelligent, open minded, and moral. that's right, moral.
because religion is the seed to a lot of bigotry, prejudice and racism.

makes me rage whenever i hear christians say they want prayer back in school

christians are free to worship their religion, go to christian meetings etc... just as is the case
for any other religion in the developed world... the "persecution" occurs when they start to go
beyond their parameters and try to covert others. if a non-christian wanted to become one, fair
enough - when christians knock on doors, harass you on the street and personally insult you because
you hold the view that there is no god, then the line has been stepped over and the retaliation
occurs. if they call it persecution, then they really are idiots.

when i think of the dark ages i see them starting in constantinople 400 ad, a terrible year for
polytheists. one could argue the dark ages started in 200 ad for women, though. of course we all
can agree the crusades were pretty dark for all theists and not. christianity having already put
women in their place and fresh off killing untold numbers of other monotheists that believed in the
same god, the same scripture and only disagreed on one prophet, the book of said prophet and power,
had only intelligence to destroy. no autopsies allowed, lock up the guy studying the stars, round
up dissidents call'em witches and burn them alive in the town square. and kill the doctor in the pew.

in a sense, the christians really get a bad rap. see, it just happened to be christianity that
chose this path, if it wasn't them it would have been the next group of monotheists to come along.
really, it's all about timing.

except there are some states even in the us that are banning people from meeting within homes to
discuss the bible. just because you can choose it doesn't mean people who insult you aren't bigots.
you guys are actual bigots; you are insulting a group of people. get your head out of the sand.
