this show really disappointed me. trey & matt could make an sp episode about this - how to reduce
theoretical physics to something timmy can understand. its overly long winded, ridiculously
dumbed-down and the constant stupid quotes from trekkie\'s in a star trek conference sure did not
help. was expecting something more serious from michio kaku.

...yet you make no comparison between the show and the book(s).

i'm watching with interest due to the simple fact that we really need to get off this planet and move on
to a new home... maybe not right now, but within the next 1000 years or so before we either kill
ourselves or end up like the dinosaurs... extinct!

@taion: according to mr michiu, even if something doesnt happen in the next thousand years, there is
a chance we'll still get wiped due to the expansion of the universe or the big crunch... either will
terminate everything in the whole universe not just on earth. its in parallel worlds by the man himself.

what makes you think that we could find a new home if we would be still trying to kill ourselves?
either directly or indirectly.
in order to really find a new home (and neither of the planets or moons in our solar system is
really fitted for that) we would have to travel an unbelieveably long distance. the only way to do
this would be with generation-spaceships. means, we would have to build huge spaceships, fast enough
and with enough technology to provide oxygen, food and energy for hundreds or thousands of years of
travel. so... whole generations would have to live on those ships.

do you think that would be possible if we were still so damn stupid to try to kill each other? 😉

btw... i hardly think 1000 years would be enough to reach such a level of technology... even with
the faster and faster growing progress.

the big crunch aint coming for at least a few billion years yet so i don't the we have to worry
about that just yet. i think our sun will consume us first. that or terrorists. america fuck
yeah!!!!!!!!!!

good to see michio doing more documentary work. was kinda interesting that roddenberry had the theory
down almost 100% way back when. (or does that mean we haven't done jack in 50 years ...lol)

antimatter the size of jupiter .... lmao, hard to believe it would take that amount of energy to bend
spacetime to the degree you would need for ftl travel.

i can't help but think you would be trashing the universe as you went along, distorting orbits etc.

@ vouk... you need to look at my last post in a much broader perspective because we're killing
ourselves in many more ways than just war or terrorism. one example is as follows... in 1940, the
human population of this planet was about 2 billion, today that number has risen to about 6.8 billion in
just 70 years. at it's current rate of growth, the human race is destined to rise to about 9 billion within
the next 40 years. the earth can only provide us with so much life support. there's a documentary
about it somewhere hosted by david attinborough, look it up... quite scary really. a good war might
actually be welcome, but i think putting war money into scientific research might be more to our
advantage.
on the subject of growing technology, who knows, the microchip was a massive revolution which
happened pretty quickly and is now levelling out, who knows what wonders we might discover in the
next 1000 years? there are a lot of ideas already on paper in the form of mathamatical formulars.
unfortunately, pieces of paper with numbers, letters and other weird symbols written on them won't fly
us to the next star system without the recources to put theory into reality.
generation ships could however be a good start, but a damn big gamble.

@ krystalvortex... if you really think we will last a few billion years before the next natural planet killer
hits us, then you're living in a dreamworld because according to statistics, it's already overdue
and will hit us well before our sun starts expanding. which according to experts should be in the next
4 - 4.5 billion years.
