it airs on a hd channel but apparently not filmed in hd therefore quality would be the same
as
ordinary transmission?
nope, definitely airs in full hd. would be most unusual for any mainstream television channel to use
cameras that only filmed in 576x720 (sd in the uk). i believe that for many years now studio-grade
cameras have been filming in hd (if digital) or using analog film; in which case i have no idea about the
physical restrictions to resolution but undoubtably its much higher than our currently supported hd format.
essentially, as far as i understand it everything we view these days has been scaled down one way or
another, either to hd or sd. if anyone has any more information about this i'd be very interested to hear
it.
all tv cameras film in 1080, fullhd, but when aired noc decoders limit them to 720, due to satellite
bandwith cost. if it is broadcasted on a network company (cable) and its is own signal, then it can be in
1080 (cos there is no satellite cost), but when they distribute to others cables or foreign tv operators they
always send the material in 720/mpeg4, and also some times in 480 modified to 16:9, so people think it is
hd when is not. it is just a money issue.
