however he was given the option. the courts had said the trial against him was dodgy and so he was
entitled to a retrial. the case was a mess and he shouldn't have been convicted. the authorities
desperately didn't want a retrial for the reasons they ran such a crap trial. so they said, if you
drop the retrial we'll send you home.
read in to that what you want. personally i think it was iran in retribution for the passenger plane
the us military shot from the sky in a horrendous act a few months earlier. they just shot a
scheduled flight with 300 people down. like wtf??? anyways iran did lockerbie in response but it was
just politically a bad thing to admit and deal with. so libya took the blame in exchange for easing
of sanctions and has done very well out of it.
might say conspiracy, but the guy was heading for a retrial until they gave him the offer to go
home. us blew up an iranian passenger plane earlier that year. so iran has cause. libya did get
sanctions lifted for taking blame and has begun to prosper out of that.
all we know is, they would rather have sent him home, let him free, than have a retrial. so
something is up.
