most absurd concept with jimmy smits starring yet?

you /leave/ the supreme court so you can make a /real/ impact?
you know how many decisions are 5-4?

makes any lawyer or poly sci majors blood boil.

well, i thought i would check it out seeing as i have always enjoyed jimmy smits. i was surprised to find
out it wasn't as bad as i feared.

it was worse!

for a show supposedly about a supreme court justice, one would think they would attempt to get the law
right.

one would be wrong.

the case that jimmy, excuse me justice garza, cites in the first minute

for what it's worth, the ease with which someone can write "reviews" and share "opinions" using
internet sources has diluted the quality of "journalism" to such a point......we all end up looking
pretty stupid. think about it.....

the miguel prado line there definitely made me laugh. honestly that is all this show could make me
think about. once you play a character like that, you become indelible to those who have witnessed.
kudos.

i was talking about "proper reviews" i checked out 4-5 reviews from some pretty good critics, la
times , boston herald, usa today... all said it was terrible beyond words

this is way better than most the crap on nbc.

as far as: "you /leave/ the supreme court so you can make a /real/ impact? you know how many
decisions are 5-4?" in the show they made it clear if he tried to make any difference they would
impeach him. so he could stay where he was and be blackmailed or make a stand, leave, etc.

jimmy smits is a reasonable actor, i get tired of seeing him as the latino mayor in everything
though. i didnt like him in dexter (that was the worst season of dexter)

while i do not think this show is great by any means, its better than most the shows i see them try
to air. i would have much preferred a show of this nature made by david e kelly. the practice (my
fav law show), boston legal, la law.

actually, the fact that this is better than most nbc shows is damning with faint praise. it just goes to
show
the incredibly low depths that the peacock has sunk to.

it is also a fair statement about how good this show might have been had it been produced/directed by
someone with vision.

edit: oh, the idea that a supreme court justice could be impeached is one of the 10 stupidest things in
the pilot. in the history of the supreme court, only 1 justice was impeached. samuel chase was one of
the first associate justices (and a signatory of the declaration of independence). he was impeached on
the politically motivated charges of improper judicial behavior. he was acquitted. and this was a man
who was expelled from an annapolis debating society for "extremely irregular and indecent behavior".
the odds of justice garza being impeached are ones that he himself would offer a large point spread on
(and that no one sane would take.)

as for the critics comment (in an earlier post from someone else), one quick stop at metacritic shows
that
this is one of the lowest rated shows ever on network tv. out of 23 "mainstream" critics, there is only 1
positive review from the hollywood reporter, and looking at his past record, he is usually 15 to 20
points
higher than the average metascore.

i like the quote from the washington post reviewer, hank steuver, "the show is so ludicrously dumb
that
your eyeballs will hurt from rolling so much."

just watched it. seems good for a new show but similar to alot of other court room dramas that have
shown. typical to all other us style shows. as for the poor reviews this has got. as its been said
before. a review is only someones opinion and not necessarily yours or mine. so i never take them
seriously. as i believe the only good review is your own. as i have enjoyed many shows/movies that
others have not.

i can see why its got people uptight: what with rubbing the systems nose in wrongfull illegal
vindictivly incarcerated people being freed on technicalities...

bring back the original america where lynching was quick justice, then 10 years later no way can the
guy be re-born.

well, i made the mistake of telling my wife there was a new series starring jimmy smits. she demanded
to watch it despite my warnings. i should mention that she is admitted to practice before the us supreme
court.

she made it 5 minutes.
