odd indeed. i sent a message to the torrent team.
hopefully we will have episodes 1,2,3 soon.
meanwhile, they are available on tpb by other torrent groups.
when using tpb, i strongly suggest downloading from a vip or trusted member...the ones with a green
or pink skull icon. also, read the user comments to see if there are any issues with the torrent. if
thepiratebay is blocked by your isp, use a proxy from the proxy bay: http://proxybay.info/ when
using a proxy, do not sign in or give personal information.
wow. i mean just wow. who knew. metacritic gave this a an 86 and rottentomatoes a 92. that
particular combination must be just about a record for any series.
i'm not going to wax lyrical about the production, performance, script, blah. trust me, it just
speaks for itself. i really do mean though, who knew.
the antipodes (hmn australia and new zealand in this instance) have a minor problem that stifles
local production, in that there are very strict union rules that prohibit the hiring of foreign
actors, and that the content (when seeking funding and tax breaks) must be predominately (i cant use
the phrase "indigenous to the country" as that has a double entendre context within these cultures),
but pertaining, perhaps, within the national identity.
here we a have a mixture of australian, new zealand and british actors who at bloody long last dont
sound like parodies of each culture. i'm not an australian, but living in australia i dont know
anyone who actually speaks like an australian actor speaking australian.
they do exist of course, but you have to go to odd places to find that stereotype, and even then
they are probably putting it on. the stereotypical australian accent, for example, harks back to an
imagined, almost mythical time roughly at the turn of the 20th century, or indeed slightly before.
presently the working class accent (not that it really exists in australia, it being remarkably
egalitarian) has a mixture of european and middle eastern overtones (there's a lot of nuanced
accents within the predominant south east asian communities as well, but that's an whole other
story). its subtle, you'd probably have to live here to notice the differences.
anyway, apologies, its late. my point is simply that bbc2, uktv, and sundance nailed it in every
which way but sideways. they do not suffer from these restrictions (?!), at least in new zealand,
and have produced something that exemplifies why the antipodes have so very many successful actors
working not in the antipodes.
