this is the 720 version, so, yes!

all 720p scene released tv-shows are .mkv

any idea why the file size is 2gb, when most other shows in 720p are ~1gb?
[#206841] Written by: BoonesFerry [22/10/2013, 05:01]

size is directly tied to the complexity of the source (i.e. still vs. moving, grainy vs sharp, solid vs.
detailed, etc.), and how much compression can be applied to any given frame and still maintain the
fixed quality setting.

if those zombies would stop moving we could get the file down to 1gb then?

;)

this show is getting lamer and lamer with each new episode; this episode being the prime example of
the show (1) having a lack of ideas (really, another infectious agent schtick?) and (2) becoming a
bastion for bad acting and idiotic corny writing (everything involving the children in this episode
was just so utterly horrible and laughably inauthentic.)

SPOILER ALERT - (highlight to read)
carol needs to die, if only to have her useless character once and for all removed from the
cast.she has served no purpose whatsoever this entire show, except as being the creature that spawned
sophia. sophia, being the girl that was the plot device for season 2

thank you

yeah but it doesn't really make sense since the previous 3 seasons the eps were around 1gb and every
other 40 minute show in 720p is 1gb.

it doesnt make sense because you dont fully understand...and i don't have an hour or
two to bring you up to speed on how it all works and why it does make perfect sense.

i reckon 20 minutes max... i'm a pretty quick learner

i understand the size/quality issue to a degree. but... [storytime removed]

nevermind. from seeing the normal hd release it becomes glaringly obvious that the grain is the
culprit (i'm sure there is more, but this is what is apparent to me at least). i guess the reason
why it is 2gb, up from 1gb last season, is that someone took a hard look at it and devised a magical
encoding scheme to make it look as best it possibly can. since previous seasons had some issues.

from the directors:

q: is that a situation where the decision to shoot on 16mm film is useful?

a: 16mm is the perfect choice. regardless if we did it in hd or 35mm film, we'd add grain in the end
to make it have this look. it calls up the language of what we're used to seeing in a horror film.
george romero's stuff was all grainy. it's like looking at a documentary, and you instantly get into
the 16mm documentary world. and if you take those same cameras and put them into the walking dead,
it begins to be a believable, real experience. we were looking at a day exterior the other day, and
it actually becomes scary -- the moment when you realize it's possible to do something this
frightful in broad daylight.

to maintain all that grain with clarity requires less compression.
hence, the large file size.

silly, i know, but that's how it goes.
