arrgh! the lack of realism continues from the pilot.
however, there are three things
which just aren't believable at all:
am i just nitpicking over details? absolutely not. i'm criticizing bad writing. they wrote all those
details into the script and they could have written different ones which would have been
believable. they could have done the same with this show. i don't see any explanation for what they
chose other than laziness.
⚠ SPOILER ALERT - (Click to reveal)
incredibly, jensen (sevigny) gets away with killing an unarmed man who was lying on the
ground in front of her, and who had already been shot three times. she shot him an additional three
times in the chest while standing above him. i can believe schaffer and molbeck might lie about her
ushering them out so she would be alone with him, and that they might 'forget' that she pointed a
gun at him and repeatedly demanded that he cross his arms (as he had forced his victims to do before
he killed them). i can buy that her psycho-babble excuse for taking her badge off of the body would
get her off of the hook for disturbing a crime scene.

⚠ SPOILER ALERT - (Click to reveal)
1. there is no way to explain how he was able to turn
over. she said that he "suddenly and unexpectedly rolled onto his back." he had been shot once in
the left leg, once in the shoulder, and once in the back. with his wounds he could not possibly just
'flip over,' and the medical evidence would prove that. she would have been caught in a lie. he
could only turn over slowly and therefore she would have been able to stop him. he was on his belly.
it was her responsibility to keep him that way until she or someone else had him in cuffs. just
allowing him to turn over (never mind her ordering it) would at least get her suspended if (as she
claimed) a fatal shooting resulted from it.
2. when she took her badge back, she also crossed his arms over his chest. wtf? it would have been
absolutely crystal clear from multiple types of evidence that she had done that after he was dead,
which means that even if someone did believe it was a justified shooting, she'd still have to be
found psychologically
unfit for duty.
3. she claimed that she acted in self-defense because he "made an aggressive move towards" her.
people who remember the amadou diallo shooting might think that she could get away with using that
excuse. she said that she "wasn't certain if he was still armed, so as a precaution, [she] assumed
krogh was still in possession of a weapon." that's not good enough. that's not even close. she would
need to see him holding something in his hand which might be a weapon to justify the use of deadly
force, and there was no such object. it's also hard to see how he could make a threatening move
from his position and in his condition. if he really had started to sit up, then the ballistics
would have shown that. the evidence would prove that he was empty handed and still lying flat on his
back when she killed him. she would have been fired and at least indicted for murder.

anyone who watched the shield will remember that vic mackey did the same thing
she did - except that he executed people in circumstances that lent themselves to a credible story
and he manipulated the evidence after the murder so that it would support his version of events.
