i dont know about better than the movie. they're stretching out all the original themes. nod to
pregnancy, underlying brilliance masked by slow country accent, duplicity, fear, cowardice etc etc.
the character of the protagonist (billy bob thornton) is much smarter and more sinister than the
original (steve buscemi), who did a brilliant job as the out of control (read never in control)
small suburban thug from the city with allusions of grandeur and far from home.
initially i thought the heroine was played way too dumb, but this too is being stretched. her
character has yet to come out - underlying brilliance yet to be exposed. labored though, and not
yet believable.
its a good homage so far, one episode meh, so who can tell. great start though. very compelling.
orr.. you could just try watching it for its own sake.. with so many dreadful writers (thankfully) tied up
with making shiny teeth series we might find a gem from left field (as they say)
the 'epics' dont always work.. like.. 'falling skies' ooops..!
p.s. reading stephen king books does not make anyone a literary critic.. err.. also making movies based
on heinlein books could be difficult... his 'politics' did upset a few people..! lol
i found this show pretty interesting, a little slow yes, but still good enough to watch until the end.
it will probably remain on my list of shows to follow because i'm weird like that... 🙂
