this show is infuriating.
after an hour, you have no idea wtf is going on.
2 eps in and... nope, really no better off than at the end of the 1st.

more accurate title = the horrible director

fwiw. i don't agree with any line of that opinion.
just finished first episode, and anxious to see the next.
the only "missing" information is what we're not being told
as part of making a proper mystery and drama.

respectfully, a mystery only requires that the identity of a murderer (or thief or some sort of
evildoer) be unknown, but here, we don't know whose side -anyone- is on, including the
protagonist. that goes well beyond what is necessary for a good mystery.

⚠ SPOILER ALERT - (Click to reveal)
someone's child - unclear whose - was kidnapped by unknown people for unknown reasons.
someone either committed suicide or was killed by unknown people for unknown reasons. (by the
end of episode two, we know whether it was suicide or homicide but nothing more.)
the main character was kidnapped by unknown people for unknown reasons over a decade ago.
she may be trying to facilitate middle eastern peace, but almost certainly has a hidden agenda that
could be either radical pro-israeli or radical pro-palestinian.
the cia, mossad, mi6, the palestinian authority, mi5, the fbi, the house of lords, and for
unknown reasons the u.s. military, are all involved, but only mi5 has a clear role.

✎ Quote by show intro
who do you trust? how do you know? by how they appear? or what they
say? what they do? we all have secrets, but sometimes -rarely- something can happen that
leaves you no choice but to reveal it. to let the world see who you really are: your secret self. but
mostly we tell lies, we hide our secrets from each other, from ourselves. so, when you think about
it like that, it's a wonder we trust anyone at all.

the creators of this show are so intent on creating mysteries that they're ignoring the need to
create a connection between the viewer and the characters so that you actually care about
whether the mystery is solved. when you don't know a character's motivations, you have no
reason to root for them (or against them) and it's hard to care about what happens to them. i
don't really care about a single character on this show because they're all cyphers*. there's no
one to root for except stephen rea, but he's playing his role so depressed and mopey that his
socks have twice as much charisma as he does.

---
*: except the sister in law. she's easy to understand, just hard to like.
⚠ SPOILER ALERT - (Click to reveal)
i know someone's child was just kidnapped but i'm upset that
the police mucked up the floor of the bathroom!
