gah! this show just gets worse and worse.
if it weren't for the fact that i absolutely adore maggie gyllenhal, i'd quit it. then again it's that
adoration that's contributing to my dismay.
⚠ SPOILER ALERT - (Click to reveal)
so, at this point it seems that the real mystery isn't a killing or kidnapping. those are just plot
engines like hitchcock's macguffin. that could be an enjoyable sort of story if it weren't for the fact
that:
1. the mystery about the child has been obvious ever since the beaming actress delivered the line,
"well, let's hope not." in episode one.
-and-
2. the protagonist, whose identity/motives/history are the real mystery, is now revealed to be
such a despicable human being that i don't give a damn about the character any more. someone
could garrote her in a cloak room now and i'd feel the most concern for the coat check girl who'd
find the body. (just imagine if breaking bad started with season five.)
there are plenty of subpar shows that are just conventionally bad. that's to be expected. this is a
show that has the elements necessary to be really excellent. yet the performances of talented
actors, some creative camera work, and very good production values are all being squandered.
if the failure of a show like star-crossed is like letting baloney spoil, this show is like buying a fine
cut of meat and then overcooking it until it's leathery jerky.
