after bagging on this show for so long, i want to give credit where it's due. this episode was very
good. in most respects the entire series has been good - just not the plotting. this time they got
that right too and rewarded the viewer for his/her patience by actually having significant
revelations. in fact, i'd argue that there were two, one concerning nessa's motivations and one
concerning the broadband connection, and that just one would have been sufficient reward. episode
four would have been much more satisfying if the first revelation had been included with it rather
than just confirming things we'd already known/suspected. frankly, i think the series to date could
be made excellent with a bit of creative cutting and splicing along the lines of what coppola did
with the godfather saga. (although, fwiw, in that particular case, i don't think it was an
improvement - the 'bookending' in part two is imo much better than the strictly chronological
structure of the saga.) i'd take the personal revelation from this ep, add it to last week's show,
and since that was all flashback anyway, air it second. very little that was of consequence happened
in ep 2. i think you could eliminate all but 12-15 minutes of that deal with three events.
the suicide of the kidnapper, his wife being set free, and the murder of the ex-fbi agent.
the first two events could easily be added to ep 3 and would work better there anyway
since they're central to the storyline of that episode. the third event could have opened ep 5 which
would fill the hole left from moving nessa's 'what will i do' flashback to the flashback episode.
then the whole series would be as good as this episode was 🙂
