skyone will be showing the same 6 episode block as abc have in the us. then,
just like abc, they will take a break.
skyone's break will end a few days after abc end thier break. so, abc will still
have the world premiere of every episode. it is highly unlikely that at any
point skyone would overtake them.
the reason for the break (or the one they gave anyway) is that to avoid the
annoyance of interruptions to the heavily serialised storyline. a lot of people
didn't like the usual "3 weeks on, 1 week off, 1 week on, 3 weeks off..." thing.
prefering to have two blocks of new episodes.
it will probably have something to do with advertising revenues too.
like xeryus says, the announcement before the season started was basically "we
know the constant week on/week off stuff pissed you all off, so this time around
we're going to play it in two solid blocks with one big break".
the main reason they have to have a break (whether it be one big one or lots of
little ones) is so they can stretch the series out to cover as many sweeps
periods as possible. these periods are crucial for network advertising revenue
and as such they need their blockbuster shows airing new episodes. so abc needs
to have the premiere of lost in a sweeps period and the finale of lost in a
sweeps period.
during the break i believe lost is being replaced by a "groundhog day"-esque
show called day break which sounds very good.
