NBC's "IT Crowd" could be out

this is old news but, i really hope this doesn't get pulled, i'd love to see
if it does well or not and if it's as good at the uk version.

didn't cbs get there first? the big bang theory's cast closely match's that of
the it crowd, imo

those idiots, the it crowd is great.

after i read that they are trying to redo kath and kim, i have come to the
conclusion that there is no hope for comedy on us tv. and you have to watch the
show to understand why.

ben silverman can't be shown the exit fast enuff. he represents all that is
wrong in hollywood today.

there is no excuse for promoting a culture of derivative work at the expense of
original material. the constant remaking of "proven formula" is creating an
irreversible stagnation in tv programming driving away viewers and making it
increasingly difficult to make a good show or keep it on long enuff to get a
following.

how the hell could they reformat 'kath & kim'? the whole thing is an 'in-joke'
for aussies, americans just can't understand it (not picking on you here, same
goes for all non-aussies/kiwis). we're making fun of ourselves in it, it won't
make sense to people who don't know anything about aussie culture. i really
don't know how they would make an american verison of it.

i agree. i was almost insulted when i heard they were going to make a us
version of a great british comedy. you either like it enough to watch the
original, or you leave it alone. you dont go "oh, thats a cool idea, but it
would be good if it was american". if you cant take the british humour, then
leave it.
seriously, america, youve got a pretty good line up of shows as it is. a lot
of the great stuff comes out of the us. do your own comedy if you want, but
dont use other countries hard work and push it off as your own. everyone knows
how it works. you copy. if it goes well, you take the credit, which i bet the
original creators dont get recognition for, and if it flops, you turn around
and say "well, it was based on a british comedy".
as for kath and kim. i think i almost spat out my coke! jordie sums it up
perfectly. how you can american-ise an australian show like this... its
seriously unthinkable. a show that is funny coz its based on australian
stereotypes will be lost if you try to map it to america. you just dont have
the matching stereotypes needed.
besides, the first ep of the new season captured over 10% of the australian
audience. and now you want to insult that by saying "thats not good enough,
we'll make our own version and do better." afterall, thats the reason you do
take other people's ideas and run your own version?

why would it matter that nbc is cutting it?
it's the exact same show and channel 4 is still showing it here in the uk.
all the torrents of the show are from over here.

for people who keep demanding that they show the original british shows, we'd he happy to do that if
they'd make more than 6 bloody episodes a year. typical us sitcoms have upwards of 20 episodes per
season.

lazy brits... hahaha 😉

(fwiw, i think the it crowd is one of the funniest shows on television anywhere on the planet... i just wish
there were more episodes per series than they seem to be content with creating.)

this is nothing new. three's company was a british show... sanford and son was
a british show... hell, i think all in the family was better than the british
counterpart. more recently they did a good job with the office. that said...

it's simple, you make an american version making "in-jokes" for americans and
american culture. just get someone who is familiar with aussie and american
culture and have them work on the show. it's that simple.

to which i respond: there are many shows that have been americanized quite
successfully when people thought it impossible. just look at the differences
between sanford and son and steptoe and son. wikipedia can tell you all about it.

wow, that's pigheaded to say. waaa our shows are sacred. seriously, other
countries "copy" stuff we do (example, take a look at how many countries have a
version of "married... with children) and we don't have a problem with them
taking it. you other countries get so offended when we try to make our own
version of something. it should be considered a compliment. i consider this
"leave our shows to us" attitude as being offensive. it's not like it'll hurt
you. stop having such xenophobia about americanization. and please,
woodenmaeng, point me to some links about executives blaming something on being
based on british comedy as to why it failed. i'll prove one of your points
wrong on the flip side: in january 2004, the office won the golden globe award
for "best television series: musical or comedy", beating nominees arrested
development, monk, sex and the city and will & grace.

so we gave credit to a truly great british comedy. before we "americanized" it.

personally, i think the second season is far poorer than the first. there's a
strange feeling about it.

i love the show, but i wished they didn't re-new it
