from most of the reports i've been seeing, the writers aren't the ones with the
money.

i think he was referring to relative to the production crew. of course relative
to the cast and executives etc. the writers don't get much but there are many on
the production who get less than the writers and are less able to weather the
writers bringing everything to a halt with a strike.

the governator continues to make way more sense than an actor-turned-politician
usually should. he's right on the mark here. the writers may not be compensated
as much as producers, network heads, etc. but they are compensated more than
enough to weather this strike. both parties need to stop and think about the
people that this is really affecting, and reach an agreement soon.

the writers may be well compensated right now but this strike is about the
future. what would happen if the wga just passed on the whole question of
revenue from legal downloads? yes today that's pocket change but five years
from now it could be as big as the legal downloading market for music whilst
the money from old fashioned network broadcasting goes into decline. the
writers may have to make some compromises but the networks have to realize
they haven't just found a source of free money and make some kind of offer so
that negotiations can get started.

where do you get the "writers are well compensated now" thing?
for most of them
that is just wrong.

hence the use of the word may at the beginning of that sentence you are so
generously misquoting. if you bothered to read the rest of my post you would
see i agree with the writers position on the internet revenues. the point was
that even if some people think the writers are being paid adequately now the
growth of internet sales means they won't be in the future without getting a
cut of those revenues and thus the studios need to change their position.
