watching this i couldn't escape the impression that this show is meant to be some kind of mix between
game of thrones and the hunger games, which made it just weird...
this seems eh, at best. and i'm still bitter about stargate universe, then they give us this and defiance.
plus this passing review(granted usa today) from up in tv news doesn't bode well:
✎ Quote
as for this syfy sequel to the torched-by-an-angel movie legion, it's the kind of series that is best watched
with the volume muted and your brain off. silence will allow you to enjoy the sight of good and evil angels
flying and fighting without actually having to hear any of the badly written and delivered dialogue that
surrounds them. (pity any actor who has to say lines like "there is no me without you.")
and a thought-free approach will stop you from obsessing over why an american city would suddenly turn
into ancient rome, or why the producers assume we've all seen legion and we're all on board for the
cumbersome back story. because both are a mystery to me.
haven't seen legion, and absolutely no intention to. i'll wait for hellblazer for some [hopefully minor] angel
drama.
i think i'd go so far as to say that it was not bad.
i'll give it at least a couple more episodes before i decide whether or not i'll keep watching.
which is more than i can say about anything else that's come from syfy lately. i thought defiance
was basically unwatchable, and helix was simply dull.

for every critic or person who did not like the show, there
appeaers to be many more who would disagree with them. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3079768/
update june 29, 2014: episode two has aired and there are now more than
2800 user ratings and the averages have held steady...with a slight tick upward.
was it just me or did anyone else get a "dune: the mini series" vibe from this?
some of the acting and casting was way off. it was watch-able (abet totally predictable)
i vaguely remember "legion", but even then it's a feeling of total disconnect between the 2. even if
they had a picture of one of the original cast members from the movie. to be honest think the
grabbed it from imdb! >_<
seeing legion would probably not help you to understand the first episode!
if they spread out the finding of "the saviour child" over a couple of episodes then it might have
been a bit more interesting. but everything was rushed and too quickly tied up. (which seems to be
the failure of having too many test screenings and focus groups dictating what they like!)
ok
"predict-a-plot" time!
who else thinks that scrawny kid (who will turn out to be his daughter and guess what... her dying
mother asked him to keep the fact that he is her father from her till she's older!) that's hanging
around the hero turns out to be the actual saviour? or at least gets given the power to save
everyone by the end of season 1??
ah, alan dale he really has never gone far from his neighbours roots, he always sounds like he's in
a soap opera. i'll give this my 3 episode test, but i don't think it'll pass.
looking at the description i was expecting to delete this within 15 mins of pressing the play
button, but it was surprisingly well produced & engaging for a 1st episode.
